The aim of this blog is to articulate a case against Narendra Modi, and counter claims of his supporters and allies. Without judging Modi as a person, the blog aims to counter the claims of leadership, supreme court's exoneration of Modi and how under Modi, Gujarat propelled ahead as a model state. It is my  opinion, that Modi's campaigners went over board in campaign rhetoric and put facts on the back burner to create the image of a statesman who can make a super power out of India. As a result the easiest ways to counter the claim is to do myth busting; take claims made by Modi or his allies or supporters and see the value in them. Several economists have expressed doubts over the shrill jingoism behind the making of Gujarat story. Even worse, is the fact that there are/were several charges against Modi or his aides. One charge too many for a prime minister of a nation. To quote George Orwell's obituary of Gandhi, "Saints should always be judged guilty until they are proved innocent", but Modi's supporters are ready to overlook the fact that communal riots of 2002 or multiple murders of wrongly accused terror suspects, and boldly trumphet the clean chit provided by the SET as the proof of Modi's ultimate innocence.

But these are easy pickings for any politician who wants to take on Modi. But have  they articulated effectively against Modi? Some of his opponents may be tongue-tied, by the fact that they are associated with murky cases on their own, where they got a benefit of doubt. Rahul Gandhi's father, Rajiv was implicated in the Bofor's scam, but was ulimately acquitted. He can not risk attacking Modi, without people finding parallels to his own father. Arvind Kejriwal tackles Modi, on the plank of corruption. Despite being the foremost anti-corruption crusader, it is still not clear what his views on human rights violation are. His Law minister's extra judicial interrogation of Nigerian nationals(?), was followed by obdurate stone walling by Kejriwal who justified the act, leaving one really doubtful if he cares enough to pose Modi these tough questions on his human rights record.

If a campaign based on inflated claims, half truths, shrill rhetoric and obfuscation can win you elections, articulating against these can provide a reason for Modi's supporters to reconsider their seemingly blind devotion to the idea of a man, and bring general peace and harmony to social media users of this country.

And to be fair to be Modi's critics, there is so much of misdeeds attributed to him that it seems impossible to take them one at a time. All you get is a general swipe at a lot of things, which makes the critic look like a douchebag. Let's break down the

Tax Reforms - Quotes, manifesto statements
Riots during other Government rule.
And then like a dream, he won the elections to become Gujarat's CM.
Murder of 'terroists'
A departure from communalism or spring break?
Gujarat growth story. It's Modi's story. Gujarat is just the back drop.

PS: I have sloppily titled the title and future direction of posts. But when not so sleeply let me revisit them.

PPS: If you are still here, the blog does not exist to make a case against Modi. It only exists to discover how one can articulate to counter the shrill supporters of the prime minister.
